Apr. 5th, 2011 04:38 pmIt's autism awareness month. Fucking hallelujah, here we go again.
First person tries to speak for me and blather about cures and acceptance and all that bullshit gets cut, no comments, no second chances. I don't want passive 'acceptance'. I want a cure.
ETA: For anyone tempted to buy into the syrupy 'acceptance/repost this for awareness!' nonsense. Read it. Read it twice. Tick through the ones that apply to you.
In that list, there are a total of THREE items that apply to me. From the whole list.

Date: 2011-04-06 12:52 am (UTC)There was one of the items on the checklist that had me a bit torn.
"I can reveal my neurology to my boss and coworkers without fear of losing my job."
I am able to do that, but it's because, get this, certain workplaces are looking for people on the autistic spectrum and I don't even know how to feel about that. I just find it fucked up and rather privileged to specifically want someone on the Autistic spectrum, because it falls under the assumption that we're all "savants", which is rarely the case.
